The objectives of study were: (1) To study the historical background of the scheme of snacks of MCGM and TMC. (2) To study the present status of the scheme. (3) To study the reasons behind the present status. (4) To study the effect of the scheme on the criteria, like, attendance of the students in school, liking for schools, attention in the classroom and physical health. (5) To compare the present status of these schemes and of the effects on the students. (6) To make suggestions for effective implementation of the scheme in future.
Sample comprised of 2500 students of standard I to IV, 500 teaches, 500 parents and 140 head masters of Mumbai, Thane.
Tools used were self-made observation schedule, interview schedule and questionnaire for students, parents, teachers and for headmasters separately.
The study was descriptive survey method.
The data was analyzed using percentage and content analysis was also used.
The findings of study were: (1) MCGM and TMC apart from providing free primary education also provided educational facilities. Scheme for providing refreshment to student is one such scheme implemented in both the Municipal Corporations. (2) As a student came empty stomach to schools, their learning process is affected as they are not able to concentrate on studies. (3) Parents of students of both the corporations belong to the economically backward class. Hence, their living standards, family circumstances, financial, social, health, and education are very low. Hence, it can be inferred that they are below the poverty line.
