The objectives of the study were: (1) To study the information regarding non-granted secondary schools of Pune district. (2) To study the physical facilities in non-granted secondary schools. (3) To study the teaching of teachers in non-granted secondary schools. (4) To study the economic condition of teachers in non-granted secondary schools. (5) To study analytically the secondary school Certificate examination result of non-granted secondary schools during five years i.e. from 1996 to 2000. (6) To find out the reasons why Secondary School Certificate examination results of non-granted secondary schools is poor.
The sample constituted of 100 non-granted schools from where maximum S.S.C. batches had passed out during 1996 to 2000. The 100 principals and 500 teachers teaching 10th standard of these schools were also included in the sample.
The tools used in the study were: documents, regarding average secondary school Certificate examination results during 1996-2000 were collected from state, division and district level offices of state board, and Questionnaire for principals, subject teachers and educated parents was developed by the investigator. Subject experts, government officers, experienced principals and social workers were also interviewed for collecting information.
The study was survey type in nature.
Statistical technique used was percentages for analyzing the data.
The findings of the study were: (1) During 1996-2000, the percentage of pass in state was 48.31 and at district level it was 54.41. At the same time the percentage of pass in secondary school certificate examination in non-granted schools was 58.56. The average percentage of pass was higher in comparison to state and Pune district. (2) In the secondary school Certificate examination during 1996-2000 in schools of six tehsils i.e. Ambegaon, Bhor, Khed Shirur, Welhe and Pune, the average pass percentage was more than 60%.
